The shooting distance varies. A lot of these photos were taken with a 600mm lens with a 1.4 extender.
The horses decide how close they'll let you get. ( if you move your curser to the upper-right corner of each photo....it will tell you what lens was used )

how close were you to the horses when you took their picture? on some it lokos like you were only a few feet away
